MAXEXPONENT Function

Description

The MAXEXPONENT function returns the maximum binary exponent possible for a REAL argument.

Syntax

MAXEXPONENT (x)

Arguments

x is an INTENT(IN) scalar or array of type REAL.

Result

The result is a scalar default INTEGER. Its value is the largest permissible binary exponent in the data type of x.

Example

write(*,*) maxexponent(1.e0) ! writes 128 write(*,*) maxexponent(1.d0) ! writes 1024 write(*,*) maxexponent(1.q0) ! writes 16384
